Nobody can search inside WhatsApp — including us

The honest part first. WhatsApp has no public profile pages: the photo, the name and the about line are visible only to people who have the number — and only as far as the person's privacy settings allow. Search engines index none of it, and no face search can 'scan WhatsApp'. Any service claiming to is not telling the truth.

What we do is smaller but real: we take the profile photo you can already see and search for the same face across the public web — open profiles, news, forums. If the person messaging you borrowed someone else's photo, the real owner is usually out there on an indexed page.

What an unknown number usually wants

The patterns repeat, and knowing which one you are looking at can matter more than the photo.

• The 'wrong number' opener. An innocent-looking text — 'is our appointment still on?' — turns into a friendly chat, which weeks later turns into an investment 'opportunity'. This is a known script, not a coincidence.
• 'Mum/Dad, my phone broke — this is my new number.' The classic impersonation, ending in an urgent transfer. Call the old number first; if it is real, two minutes settles it.
• A dating-app match who moved you to WhatsApp. That step leaves the app's moderation behind, which is exactly when verifying the photo matters most.
• Video-call blackmail. Some accounts push for a video call fast, record the screen, and then demand money. Do not answer video calls from strangers.

Try the free route first

Before uploading anything to us, two free checks usually go a long way.

• Search the number itself, in quotes, on Google. Numbers used in scams often surface on complaint boards and forums.
• Drop a screenshot of the profile photo into Google Images and Yandex reverse image search. A photo lifted from a stock site or someone else's account usually shows up straight away.
• Open the contact card and look: no photo, or a landscape or a logo, is not proof of anything — but it does mean there is no face to search.

Preparing the photo

WhatsApp does not let you save someone's profile photo directly; the practical route is a screenshot. Open the chat, tap the name, enlarge the photo, screenshot it.

• Crop to the face; less background makes for cleaner matching.
• A tiny or blurry photo weakens the search — WhatsApp shows a compressed copy, and if that is what you have, that is what we work with.
• If several people are in the frame, you pick the face to search in the next step; one face per search.

How to read what comes back

What you are looking for is a contradiction: the same face attached to a name or a story that does not match what you have been told. If 'Anna from London' turns out to live under a different name in a different country, you have your answer.

A clean result cuts both ways: plenty of real people have no public photos at all. Nothing found narrows your doubt but does not close it. And a score is similarity, not identity — open the pages and judge for yourself.

Verify, don't stalk

This page is for checking someone who is messaging you and whose identity you cannot be sure of — not for profiling a stranger whose number you happen to have. And if the doubt has already turned into a request for money, stop: never send money to someone you have never met, block and report the number to WhatsApp, and keep screenshots if you need to go to the authorities.
