"Free face search" is searched constantly, and most of the results are not free. Here is what actually costs nothing, and where its limits start.

The genuinely free tools
These cost nothing and are often all you need. They make us no money, which is why they come first.
- Google Images reverse search — shows where the same photo has been published. The fastest first step.
- Yandex reverse image search — noticeably better than Google at facial similarity, especially for content from Eastern Europe.
- Bing Visual Search — a third angle; sometimes catches what the other two miss.
- TinEye — has a deep archive and is good at finding when a photo first appeared online.
What none of them can do
All of the above search for a file, not a face. Crop the photo, apply a filter, or try a different picture of the same person and they find nothing.
Which is usually exactly what you need: if your photo is being used on a fake account, the picture on that person's real account is a different frame. File search cannot bridge that gap.
Tools that say free and are not
Most face search engines promise a free search, then blur the results and ask for payment. Not technically a lie — the search did run — but useless if what you needed was the list.
The reason is simple: behind every face search is infrastructure processing billions of images, and that does not run for free. You will not find an unlimited free face search engine; if you do, you are the product.
What is free on detsherlock

What to try first
In order: start with Google Images and Yandex. If the photo was lifted from a stock site or someone else's account, it usually turns up there and you are done.
If nothing comes back and you are still suspicious, face search is the only method that looks for a different photo of the same person.
Common questions
- Is there a completely free face search engine?
- Not an unlimited one. Google Images, Yandex, Bing and TinEye are free but search for files, not faces. Every service that searches facial geometry charges at some point; the processing cost is real.
- Can free tools find a fake account?
- Often, yes. Most fake accounts copy the photo as-is, which reverse image search catches. If the photo was cropped or is a different frame, free tools will not find it.
- What does the detsherlock free preview show?
- How many matches were found in a 100,000-face sample. It is a real search result, not an estimate — but the sample is a tiny slice of the index, so nothing found does not mean nothing exists.
