Where the name came from

Det Sherlock AI spread through TikTok and Instagram videos in the summer of 2026: a photo goes in, and seconds later out comes a list of pages where that face appears online. The videos drew millions of views, and the name is now searched in dozens of variants — 'det sherlock', 'detsherlock ai', 'how to download det sherlock ai'.

All of those searches point at the same thing: face search — technology that looks for the face in a photo across public web pages. detsherlock is a web service that does exactly that, and this guide exists to clear up the confusion that has gathered around the name.

More than one product carries the name

Let's settle the most-asked question first. detsherlock is a website, and it lives only at detsherlock.net. The mobile apps you see in the app stores under names like 'Det Sherlock Ai' or 'Sherlock AI' belong to other companies; they are not affiliated with us.

The easiest way to tell is the address bar: if it does not say detsherlock.net, it is not us. We cannot speak for what similarly named apps do with your photo or how they charge — for our own product, everything is stated plainly on this page and in our privacy policy.

Do you need to install an app?

Not for detsherlock. The search runs in your browser — the same on a phone as on a computer: open detsherlock.net, upload a photo, and the results arrive on the same page. There is nothing to install and no app permissions to grant.

One warning we owe you: sites titled 'Det Sherlock Ai APK download' circulate in search results. Installing an APK from outside the official store is risky no matter how trustworthy the source looks — you cannot know what is inside the file. If you install an app, install it only from the official store; for detsherlock, you never need to download anything.

The technology underneath: face search

The system finds the face in your photo and derives a string of numbers from the ratios between its landmarks — eye corners, nose tip, mouth corners. That string is called a face signature, and it is what gets searched, not your photo. This is why a cropped or filtered image, even an entirely different photo of the same person, can still match.

What it can and cannot do

With its honest limits:

• Can: find public pages where the same face appears — including the real account of the person whose photo a fake profile is using.
• Cannot: look inside private accounts, direct messages, or pages behind a login. No legitimate face search can; anything claiming to is lying.
• Cannot: verify identity. A high score means 'very similar', not 'definitely them'; siblings and lookalikes can score high too.
• Remember: an empty result does not prove someone is not online — only that the face was not found in indexed public sources.

What it is for — and not for

A face is biometric data, and the line is drawn by use, not intent. Verifying the person you are talking to on a dating app, finding where your own photos are published, and research you are authorized to do are legitimate uses. Tracking someone without their consent, harassment, or screening for hiring and housing decisions are not — do not use these tools for that.
